Speculum

Description

Ophthalmic Speculum

An Ophthalmic Speculum is a self-retaining surgical instrument used to retract the eyelids and maintain exposure of the operative field during ophthalmic procedures. It is routinely used in cataract, corneal, glaucoma, and vitreoretinal surgeries to provide unobstructed access to the eye.

The instrument typically consists of two blades connected by a spring or adjustable mechanism that gently holds the eyelids apart without the need for manual assistance. Its design allows stable positioning while minimizing pressure on the globe and surrounding tissues.

Manufactured from surgical-grade stainless steel & Titanium, ophthalmic speculums are durable, corrosion-resistant, and suitable for repeated sterilization. They are available in different designs such as wire speculum, solid blade speculum, and adjustable (Barraquer-type) speculums to accommodate varying surgical preferences and patient anatomy.

Key Features:

  • Self-retaining design for hands-free eyelid retraction
  • Provides consistent surgical exposure
  • Minimizes pressure on the globe when properly positioned
  • Made from high-quality, sterilizable materials
  • Available in multiple designs and sizes for different procedures

Ophthalmic speculums are fundamental instruments in eye surgery, ensuring stable exposure and efficient surgical workflow.
